BALLET  Great for improvement to posture, strength, co-ordination, control and body awareness. Assessments offered.

BALLET CONCEPTS  Ideal for students who have only ever studied Tap, Jazz, Contemporary or Funk. This class aims to increase posture awareness and is of particular benefit for turns and jumps. No tutus, no tiaras, no pink tights and no pointe shoes! The techniques you need to enhance your favourite style/s.

KINDER BALLET  We have separate, fun sessions to introduce ballet to 3 & 4 year old kinder children with improvisation, dance making and a wide range of teaching approaches.

JAZZ  Often fast moving and energetic jazz dance uses popular recent-release or retro pop music. Quite aerobic & develops co-ordination, flexibility, fitness & strength.

FUNK  With a “looser” look than jazz, funk has a street style & interesting use of the “broken beat”. Available from Year 7+.

CONTEMPORARY  A very liberal dance style, there is often a focus on flow of movement and dynamics. Great for developing posture, balance, rhythm and strength. Also explores improvisation and dance making. Self-expression and creativity encouraged.

TAP  Fun and quite aerobic, tap has co-ordination and musicality challenges. Start with simple steps, and travelling patterns to build up to more complex rhythms.

DANCE PLAY for 1 & 2 year olds (with their parent/carer)  In a safe, age-appropriate, informal and educational environment we use diverse music sources, props and stories to encourage speech, singing, movement and group interaction.

DANCE PLAY for 3 & 4 year olds  These sessions explore body actions and the dynamics of moment through a range of music styles, instruments and body percussion. Children are encouraged through a variety of props, stories and creative ideas to find ways to explore and express their own dance. Elements of design are used to foster an appreciation of shape and form.

*Dance Play Age Calculation: we initially place children in the class for their age as at 30th April, so if your child is 3 years old at 30th April 2011 then they would be in a 3yo group. Children do not change classes after their birthday.

DEVELOPING DRAMA  This class is aimed at older 4yo children and 5yo children who have not yet commenced Primary School and will include building confidence, social skills, finding your voice, working with others, and will introduce drama concepts, games and story telling.

CREATIVE KIDS INTEGRATED ARTS WORKSHOPS  Dance, drama, music, movement, design and art in a workshop styled class to encourage teamwork, self expression, concentration, and spontaneity. This class is designed for students with additional educational needs. Offered three times each term.

CREATIVE DRAMA & SINGING  Exploring drama concepts, creating stories, learning musical theatre-styled songs and dances, creating characters, developing confidence with public speaking, social skills and co-operation while having a lot of fun.

CREATIVE DRAMA & SINGING WORKSHOPS For those unable to commit to a weekly class but would still like to explore the world of drama and musical theatre, this workshop-style class is offered three times per term for 2 ½ hour sessions. The longer sessions enable more intensive content and encourage focussed concentration and retention. These sessions are interconnected so students are expected to attend all sessions each term.

CREATIVE DRAMA & PERFORMANCE For students aged 10 years and older wanting to refine their performance skills and character creation, this class will focus on a variety of drama forms with performance confidence being the underlying goal. May also explore musical theatre depending on interest.

MUSICAL THEATRE  Focussing on song & dance, improvisation, theatre games, audition skills, solo and group devised activities and in class performances. A chance to develop acting skills and build the stamina and split focus in performance that musical theatre tests. Also introduces singing and breathing techniques.

TROUPES, SOLOS, DUOS AND TRIOS  Available by arrangement for experienced dance students. Please call the office for more information

BDC Policies

About Your Invoice & Special Event Levy (SEL)

At BDC Dance we believe businesses should not “fundraise” but rather charge a fee for goods and/or services provided. The Special Event Levy is included on your invoice in Term 2 and Term 3 (usually). The SEL covers costs associated with concerts, cabaret, showcases, creative arts days, staffing back stage, props etc, and is calculated according to each family’s total class commitments. Exceptions are adult classes, solos, duos and trios, Pilates, Dance Play for 1 and 2 year olds, and Creative Kids Integrated Arts. Singing & Musical Theatre and Creative Drama & Singing will participate in a Showcase on Sunday 27th November therefore will be included in the Special Event Levy as are 3yo and 4yo Dance Play students who participate with their families in a Creative Arts Day on Sunday 19th June.

Our fees in 2012 are based on the actual number of dancing weeks each term, therefore your invoices will vary from term to term depending on the number of classes in the term in which your child is booked. If you have any questions about your invoice please contact Liz in the office (Monday, Thursday & Friday). If paying your invoice with no changes or amendments required, total payment is due and payable by Friday 13th May (see your invoice for payment instructions). Any changes need to go through the office either by phone, email or a note in the posting box otherwise your child will automatically be re-enrolled for the continuing classes in the next term. Re-enrolment is required at the end of Term 4 for classes starting in the following year.

Variation to the Fees and BDC Dance Refund Policy

Unlike most dance schools we do not require fees in advance. On request we can arrange for payment to be made by instalments. IF we are promptly advised of the following situations then a discount of term fees may apply:

(1) planned holiday absence advised in writing at the start of the term; or

(2) injury, illness or absence (two or more consecutive sessions).

No discount or refund is applicable if there is an occasional absence due to illness or other commitments, however there is the option of taking a substitute class (at an appropriate level and style) during the same term by arrangement.

IF FOR ANY REASON YOU DECIDE TO WITHDRAW FROM A CLASS OR
CHANGE YOUR CLASS SELECTIONS YOU MUST NOTIFY THE OFFICE.
