Contemporary

Rather than a specific technique Contemporary dance works with an open minded movement vocabulary limited only by the teacher/choreographer’s imagination.

As well as working with improvisation and dance making, contemporary dance explores and pushes response or reaction to music, dynamics, design of the body and art ideas. Middle body curves and floorwork are often featured in this style.

Contemporary dance classes are a tool for dancers to strengthen their bodies, while increasing mobility, flexibility and agility. Contemporary dancers develop a strong understanding of flow of movement with sensitive awareness of space, timing, posture, balance, rhythm and strength.

Contemporary dance revels in a broad vocabulary of movements and has space to respect individuality and values creativity. This style is low on rules, rights and wrongs.
