Leonie Douglas

Leonie Douglas started classical ballet at six years and began training at the Gwenda Britten Dance Academy , Palmerston North, New Zealand (1990 – 1996) where she  achieved the Royal Academy of Dance Ballet exams to Intermediate level,  and the ISTD Advanced in their Modern Dance program.  She was accepted to train full time at the New Zealand School of Dance, gaining the National Certificate in dance performance with a Contemporary Major in 2000. She has performed for New Zealand choreographers and companies such as Mary Jane O’Reilly and the Auckland Dance Company, Merenia Gray Dance Theatre and Opera New Zealand.

Since 2000 she has been working as a dancer, choreographer and teacher in Auckland and Wellington, NZ and then came to Australia 2 years ago.   She is strongly interested in choreography and has created and performed new dance theatre work with the support of Creative New Zealand. 

Leonie is passionate about teaching and working with children, having worked with theatre, school-based performances and dance technique classes.  She has been responsible for the presentation of ballet and contemporary dance to a wide range of students.
